2008 as a reading year is growing more and more exciting by the minute! Dave of Siphoning Off A Few Thoughts is hosting the Africa Reading Challenge. This is a fantastic idea! Read 6 books by African authors, or books about Africa or African issues, from January 1 to December 31, 2008. In keeping with all the other challenges I'm participating in, I'm choosing books that I already own:
- Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe
- Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
- The Famished Road by Ben Okri
- Brazzaville Beach by William Boyd
- A Good Man in Africa by William Boyd
- A Sport of Nature by Nadine Gordimer
Thanks, Dave, for hosting this! I'm looking forward to seeing what everyone else will be reading so that I can add more titles and authors to my TBR.
Half of a Yellow Sun is an amazing book...I saw the author read from it when it first came out. She has a wonderful speaking voice, deep and hypnotic.

I haven't read "Half of a Yellow Son," but I do recommend her first novel, "Purple Hibiscus." The Achebe is great!

Amy: I love to hear authors read from their own work :)
Teresa: I read Purple Hibiscus a couple of years ago and loved it. Looking forward to Half of A Yellow Sun, which I've only heard good things about.

Oh, the temptation! I'm already planning on reading a few books by African authors next year, I'll have to go see if I have six already lined up!

I've just read Half of a Yellow Sun for the second time and it stands up to it. There aren't that many novels you can say that about.
